This is a project that is, in some ways, nearly 30 years in the making, as the initial seed that eventually grew into the book was planted by a small bit of text in the back of GURPS Horror, the third gaming book I ever bought sometime back in the misty past of 1991.
The gulf of time between writing the manuscript in late 2016–early 2017 til now seems somehow even greater. Back then I was just starting to pursue full-time work in the game industry; little could I have imagined that by the time of the book’s release, I’d be working for Chaosium on my favorite RPG of all time, trying my best to fill the tremendous legacy Greg Stafford entrusted to me. Berlin will always be my baby, though. My first major published work, and the fulfillment of a creative vision that has percolated inside my fevered imaginings since the very first days of my involvement in the hobby.
If you’d like to read more about the book, I talked about the inspirations behind the project and other aspects of its contents over at Never Read the Latin, a new and promising Call of Cthulhu fan site. Check it out! And while you’re there, you can hop over to Aaron’s review of the book.
